Educational Qualification
Two routes into this post. Pick whichever matches your background.
Route 1 — BE/B.Tech with GATE Graduate degree in the relevant discipline (CSE or EE) in first division from a recognised university, with a valid GATE score.
Route 2 — ME/M.Tech Postgraduate degree in the relevant discipline in first division at both graduation and postgraduation level from a recognised university. No GATE required for this route.

GATE scores from 2024, 2025 or 2026 are acceptable. Older scores will not be considered.
Age Limit
Maximum age is 28 years as on 1st June 2026.

Selection Process
Three stages. No separate written exam is guaranteed — depends on turnout.
Stage 1 — Document Verification All original certificates, mark sheets and ID proof are checked at the venue on interview day. If documents are incomplete or don’t match, you don’t move further.
Stage 2 — Written Test (if required) If a large number of candidates show up, a screening written test may be held. This is at LRDE’s discretion on the day.
Stage 3 — Walk-in Interview Shortlisted candidates appear before the Selection Committee. Final selection is based on interview performance, academic record and research background.

Things to Know Before You Go
No job guarantee — JRF is a research fellowship, not permanent employment. The fellowship does not lead to a DRDO job automatically.
Fellowship tenure — Initially awarded for a fixed period. After two years, JRF can be upgraded to Senior Research Fellow (SRF) based on performance. Tenure can extend up to 5 years.
Govt/PSU candidates — If you are currently working in a government department, PSU or autonomous body, apply through proper channel and carry your NOC to the interview.
No TA/DA — Travel and accommodation for interview or joining are entirely on you.
No mobile phones inside campus — Leave electronic devices outside or in your vehicle.
Antecedent verification — Selected candidates go through character and background verification before joining. Any document discrepancy cancels the candidature.
Incomplete applications are rejected — Eligibility screening happens before the interview. Do not leave any section of your bio-data blank.
