If you’re a first-year science student in India, the JNCASR POBE and POCE 2026 are probably the coolest “secret” fellowships you can find. Unlike most one-off internships, these are a 3-year commitment. You basically spend your next three summers at JNCASR, Bangalore, doing real research, and you walk away with a Diploma in Biology or Chemistry.
The best part? If you do really well, you might get direct admission into their MS-PhD program without the usual entrance exam headache.

How to Apply (Last-Minute Checklist!)
The entire application is online. Don’t wait until the last minute on Feb 28th!
-
Register Online: Go to the official JNCASR Fellowships and Programmes portal. Look for the POBE/POCE 2026 link.
-
Application Fee: There’s a ₹500 application fee. Pay this via the Razorpay link provided on their portal. Keep the receipt!
-
Statement of Purpose (SOP): This is your chance to shine. Explain why you are passionate about research, why JNCASR, and what specific areas in Biology or Chemistry excite you. Be genuine, not generic.
-
Referee Details: You need to provide the contact details of one referee (usually a college professor). They will receive an email link to upload their recommendation letter directly to JNCASR. Make sure they know this is coming and that they submit it before the deadline!
Pro-Tips for a Strong Application:
-
The Recommendation Letter: Many applications get delayed because the referee forgets to upload their letter. Follow up with your professor politely!
-
PCBM Preference: JNCASR explicitly states a preference for students with a strong foundation in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics (PCBM) at the 12th-grade level for POBE.
-
Integrated Students (IISERs, NISERs): If you are in a 5-year BS-MS program, you are NOT eligible for POBE/POCE. These are specifically for 3-year B.Sc. students. You should look into the SRFP (Summer Research Fellowship Program) instead!
